Hi - my name is Kristi Carlough. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and the owner of SomaFlow Health and Massage Therapy.
Back in 2015, I stumbled upon a research article about body-centered, Somatic Medicine. I didn’t know it at the time, but that moment would change my life. It planted a seed that would blossom into a deep passion for learning and implementing alternative medicine and the mind-body approach to healing others. It wasn’t long after reading that article that I began receiving massage therapy on a regular basis after a debilitating car accident. I was impressed not only of the relief from physical pain, but it the incredible calming effect that it had on my emotional health at the time. Touch therapy gave me the foundation for healing unlike any other medical framework I had experienced. Soon after, I started my studies at one of the best massage schools in the nation, East West College of Healing Arts located in Portland, Oregon.
My intention in starting SomaFlow Health and Massage is to allow my clients the freedom to seek effective treatment, across environments (home, workplace, events, in-studio) and at a pace they are most comfortable. Health should not be a one size fits all approach. I believe the most effective way to spread the knowledge and application of health and healing is to meet the individual where they are. Some are ready to dive in, others wanting to dip their toes in the water and slowly become acclimated to their wellness journey.
My academic and professional experience supports my thirst of knowledge in this field of study. I hold degrees in both Human Services from University of Alaska Anchorage, and Psychology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. I have worked with some of those most well intended, heart centered organizations across Alaska, Colorado, and Oregon and witnessed some beautiful success stories. However, what resonated most was those individuals left untouched and left in the shadows of the western treatment models. It is for those people that I will continue to unravel the inner workings of the human experience and our capacity to heal. Massage therapy and alternative medicine allows me to work with individuals on a holistic level, supporting their mind, body and spirit.
I find my own balance in life through trail running with my dog, restorative yoga, music, and art. My dream is to support alternative medical research and to teach others about the true benefits of treating the mind and body with natural, holistic approaches.
